Lesson Learned

Previously I never wore a helmet when riding. Then I started reading all the stories about how they have saved people, and decided to start wearing one. Good thing I did.

We had just started out on a ride with friends, on a trail we were very familiar with. My friend had decided to bring his donkey and cart. We started out and my mare heard them behind us. She spun around, saw the donkey/cart and freaked out. She slung her head up, knocked me in the forehead, and off I came. My head hit the rock hard ground and I lay stunned for a minute.

When I got up and took off my helmet, it was cracked in the back and had a huge gouge across the front from her hoof. If not for the helmet, I may not be here. Wear it. It saves lives.
