Why I always wear a helmet . . . and it has to look good.

Windy day, only one other rider outside, and my Haflinger mare spooks at a dust devil. She jumps sideways and as there is no horse under me, I hit the ground, hard. My head and my backside take the brunt of the fall. My helmet (not a Troxel) is cracked near clean around (which is okay by me as I really wanted a Sierra helmet).

I limped back to the barn. After pain relievers and ice packs, I went to bed aching and dizzy. The vertigo eventually goes away. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet, I think I would have had a concussion or worse. Since I ride with western tack, I really appreciate Troxel's Sierra and Cheyenne models.
