Over 4 million riders have chosen a Troxel helmet to protect themselves. With a safety record second to none, Troxel is the most trusted brand of ASTM/SEI- certified equestrian helmets. As pioneers in equestrian helmet safety, over 30 years of research and development go into every Troxel helmet available today. Your safety matters to us.
Our Mission: Prevention is better than a cure. This mindset led to the first lightweight and ventilated certified equestrian helmet ever developed. Troxel started at the forefront of equestrian helmet innovation and continues to lead the way in equestrian helmet research and development for a safer sport to benefit riders of all disciplines.
Pioneers - In 1992, Troxel was the first to develop a light-weight and vented ASTM approved equestrian safety helmet.
Comprehensive - Troxel offers helmets and accessories for all riders from young children starting out to professional riders and instructors. Troxel is proud to create styles for English and Western alike to further encourage helmet use no matter what the discipline is.
After producing superior English styled helmets for some years, and studying statistics on horse related head injuries, Troxel realized that the number of people using helmets in Western and Trail riding was significantly lower.
Troxel is the first company to put their research and development team to work for Western and Trail riders. With the introduction of the Dakota "All Trials" helmet, Troxel was the first to offer helmets to the Trail & Western rider. Troxel is still the only helmet manufacturer supporting all equestrian disciplines with a comprehensive line of safety helmets.
Troxel has a rich history and at the core of its past innovations is Dr. Richard Timms, the founder and past owner of Troxel's equestrian helmet business. Troxel is the only physician-developed equestrian helmet manufacturer and Dr. Timms’ influence has been significant. His background as a specialist in critical care at the University of California and as a research professor at The Scripps Institute provided the foundation for Troxel's advanced research and innovative products. Dr. Timms has served on the board of the National Brain Injury Association, and was an expert consultant to the State of California Department of Public Health on all injury monitoring and prevention efforts.
“Interestingly, equestrian helmets are one of the most effective injury prevention products on a per-minute-of-use basis over all that I have studied.” – Dr. Richard Timms.
The team in place today is carrying on Troxel's legacy of incorporating the latest innovative technology in their line of equestrian safety helmets.
