I Was At A Pretty Fast Canter

It was a normal day and I was out riding my mayor which I had had for four months. I was riding around my barn at a pretty fast canter.

I was a beginner rider so she was kind of like my bulletproof horse. My foot came out of the stirrup and my head hit the side of the barn. But with my helmet on, I only got a slight headache.

It could’ve been way worse because I hit the corner of the barn which is super, super dangerous. If I didn’t have that helmet on, I probably would’ve had to have stitches.

My Helmet Cracked

I am 61-years-old and have moved to western trail from the English ring. I love riding without a helmet. You know that wind-in-my-hair-cowgirl thing?

Well since I’ve gotten older, my balance isn’t as good. Headed out on the trail on 12/8 with my mare and some friends. My mare is as solid as they come. But we were with a youngster that was a little jiggy.

I looked around and saw that everyone else had on their helmets so on mine went. Thank goodness...

Five minutes into the ride and they spooked. I was fine because my Daisy just skidded slightly but then the youngster spun around and my girl went with her. My leg couldn’t hold so I flew off.

I landed very hard on my lower back which is compromised with a missing disc. And then bounced to my head. Glasses went flying, jeans pocket ripped. And helmet my helmet cracked. I have a concussion but it could have been a lot worse. My helmet is now in my trailer tack room as a reminder to myself to ALWAYS put it on, no question.

He Teleported Out From Under Me

Earlier in my life, my son's horse, Country Billy, got scared my a passing pulpwood truck. I was riding him saddle seat in a single rein snaffle bit. He teleported out from under me in the mysterious ways that all horse riders know. My head hit the ring wood fence right on the front of my helmet. I escaped serious injury To my head because I was wearing my Troxel helmet.

I sent the helmet back to Troxel with a Thank You note.

Only the front of the Troxel helmet was damaged but I was picking splitters out of my mid-section for months courtesy of the brown-painted fence!

Thanks to my Troxel helmet I didn't have a concussion.

Thank You For A Great Product

I rode horses off and on since I was 8 never using a helmet, but never owning a horse. My wife always wanted one since we married (1980), but we could not afford one. About 5 years ago I surprised her by saying it was time to get one. We ended up with a second horse 9 months after the first.

We rode without helmets for about 2 1/2 years, then we met Gayle and she talked to us regarding the benefits of the helmet. We had a person at our stable, who had a bad fall and received a concussion.

Gayle told us to spend the extra money and get a good comfortable helmet. She named you guys. So we got our helmets (Troxel) always wearing them.

My wife and I were out riding on the trail. I had gotten off my horse and was getting back up when kids came running up. My leg got stuck on the back of the saddle, I could feel my horse tense up and start to spin. I was thrown to the ground landing on my right side and hitting the right side of my head on the ground.

I could barely breathe and was in great pain on my right side and back. My wife took me to the emergency room. They said my right lung was in distress and bruised ribs. They asked if I hit my head. I said yes, but was wearing a helmet and I never lost consciousness.

I had a CAT scan, MRI, ultrasound and lots of X-rays. The staff said and I believe I would have had a concussion or TBI had I not had a helmet.

It has now been three weeks and I just started back riding. Yes, I will be buying a new helmet, maybe a different color.

Thank you so very much for such a great product.

I Lost My Balance

Yesterday, when me and my horse went to stop in the chute after our run, my horse popped up and I lost my balance and fell. I landed on my back and also hit my head. I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital and all of my scans were clear. I was sent home with a concussion and my doctor said if I hadn't worn my helmet it would've been much worse. They also said that there was another horse accident earlier in the day and the girl was not wearing her helmet and was in a much worse state. I was wearing my snow leopard print Troxel helmet!

She Can Still Enjoy Her Horses

I just wanted to give a big thank you to Troxel Helmets. Your helmet has saved my daughter from what could have been a much more serious accident.

She had her horse run over the top of her, chest to chest at a gallop. Even though she had dismounted, she still wore her helmet. She has suffered a slight concussion from her head hitting the ground but I believe because she was wearing a helmet it was only slight.

Unfortunately, she also suffered fractures to the front of her upper and lower jaw where teeth were knocked out, from the hoof grazing her face. She has a journey ahead but will still be able to continue riding and enjoy her horses with no brain injuries. For this, I thank Troxel Helmets immensely!

If I Had My Helmet On...

On Sunday I learned the importance of a helmet. My parents had always been on top of me about wearing one while on a horse but I was always like “I’ll be fine, I’ll put one on next time” etc. Always thinking I would be fine and nothing would happen. That is exactly what I thought Sunday.

I was on Malibu doing drills and my friend wanted me to go over to her pasture when I was done so we could just talk and hangout. As I left my house I passed my mom who was washing her car and I told her where I was going. When I got over to my friend's pasture I swung my leg over and sat in my saddle sideways and my friend was sitting on the hood of her truck and we were just talking.

From this point I don’t remember much, I think I was going to swing my leg back over to sit in the saddle normal and as I was doing that we believe that a snake or something was over by my horse and it spooked her because she took off with me still not in the saddle right. I had tried to pull back on the reins but I didn’t have any grip on my horse because at the time I didn’t have my feet in the stirrups or anything.

I came off and hit the ground face first and was knocked unconscious. My friend tried to wake me up but couldn’t so she went rushing to find my parents, which is a good few acres away. She found my dad and as they were pulling up to get out of her truck I was just waking up. I was taken to Baptist South, but I had to be airlifted to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. At the hospital, we found out that I had gotten a Subarachnoid hemorrhage and a concussion.

If I had my helmet on, I probably would have just had a concussion or maybe not even that.

I Had An Extremely Bad Crash

I am a grateful Troxel supporter!... I had an extremely bad crash over the weekend. It was a freak accident. If I wasn't wearing my Troxel helmet, the ER doctor said I could have easily died. When I fell at canter speed, all I remember is my head hitting the ground. My memory is still foggy. I grew up in a world where nobody wore helmets. As an adult, no way will I ride without one. Without this helmet, I could have made my children mother-less, my husband wife-Iess, my parents child-less. Set a good example, wear your helmet!

It Was A Simple Trail Ride

I've ridden for 30+ years without a helmet. Then I started reading story after story about head injuries. I'm glad I did. I bought a helmet and started using it. I almost did not wear it that day because it was a simple trail ride..right?

While ponying a young horse on my seasoned well-trained mule, I cannot tell you what happened. Only that I woke up blind. I suffered a severe concussion. My sight came back by the grace of God. But.. without a helmet I would have most likely died. For real! Now its every ride every time for me!

Please Wear Your Helmets

Hello Fellow Equestrians,

I have been riding since I was six-years-old. I never wore a helmet, until I had a mare that I had for about 12 years & never had any issues before. She got mad because she couldn't see her stablemate & started serious bucking.

She bucked 3 times, & the 4th time she twisted sideways! My leg hit the saddle horn & turned totally black! I survived. I started wearing a Troxel Helmet from then on!

My current horse is a Quarter Horse mare named Daisy. She is 22. We have been doing Gymkhana for 15 years now. She is a very well-behaved mare. 99% well-behaved is pretty good! But, that 1% is a doozy!

Finishing up a Barrel Ride at a Gymkhana Show, instead of going out the gate when finishing the ride-she made a sharp left turn-I kept going towards the gate! After dusting myself off from that bone-jarring fall, I looked at my helmet.

At first glance, I was relieved that only my visor was cracked! I looked closer- my helmet was deeply cracked from the visor to the back of the helmet!! Wow! That crack would have been my head!

Thank you Troxel for keeping me safe! Fellow Equestrians, please wear helmets so you can enjoy many more rides on your Equine Companion.

Ride safely.
