Dear Troxel,
My Troxel Spirit helmet saved my life on April 11, 2007 when I was violently bucked off my new horse on a trail ride on the nearby Montague Plains. I have a
badly broken back, but it could have been much worse if I had been knocked unconscious or had also broken my neck. I was able to get to my cell phone in
spite of being paralyzed from my armpits down, and made a 911 call that brought the volunteer fire department to my location. I was life air lifted by
helicopter to Baystate Medical center in Springfield Massachusetts where I was operated on for more than 4 hours, placing titanium rods in my upper back.
After 2 weeks in a rehabilitation hospital, I am recuperating at home. My helmet is scuffed and slightly dented in spots, but I know for sure that if I had
not been wearing it as I always do whenever I ride, I would have been knocked out and unable to make that lifesaving call. I landed hard face down on the
ground with my 2 front teeth knocked out, but because I could still move my arms I was able to get to my cell phone.
Thank you so much for making this affordable product. I have ridden for over 50 years and just 2 weeks earlier had been a guest speaker at a horseman's expo
on trail safety, where my speech emphasized wearing helmets at all times and carrying a cell phone on your person rather than on your horse. I practice what
I preach and that is why I am here today. My original diagnosis was paraplegia, but I am expected to make a full recovery and look forward to riding my old
reliable lazy Tennessee Walker, Jesse this fall. Thank you again for making a terrific product. I will be replacing my helmet, but I want to keep this one
as a prop for future speeches to 4H and youth groups on the importance of always wearing your helmet, even if you are just walking as I was.
Sincerely,
Olivia Sears
