About three months ago I took my daughter out for a ride. She was riding my horse and I decided to ride one of the other boarder's horses, Pride, a Quarter Horse Paint. With my Troxel helmet firmly on my head, we set out for a lovely, evening ride. We got to a point in the road where we thought we would do a slow canter. I gave Pride a bit of pressure and she decided to 'buck' instead of canter. At one point, I thought I was going to get myself out of the situation, but she was not only bucking, but twisting. In addition, she positioned herself off the side of the road, which is gravel, onto the paved portion of the road.
I finally went down, onto the pavement, I landed flat on my back and snapped my head back against the pavement. For a while, I thought I was OK. I walked Pride back to the barn and went through all the 'untacking' duties required. Later that evening I got sick. Now I knew I had a head injury to some extent. The doctor X-Ray's my back and fortunately, nothing was broken but I did have a mild concussion and bruises covering my back and various other parts of my body.
It's easy to see that if I hadn't had my Troxel helmet on, I would have either ended up with a major head injury, in a coma or possibly death. I firmly believe that.
I cracked the back of the helmet and have since ordered a new one. It is hanging in my garage as a reminder of how precious life is and how it can change in an instant. I will never ride without a helmet and neither will my daughter. For, you see, she got a huge lesson in all of this watching her mother being slammed to the pavement and witnessing how a helmet saved my life.
Thank you for making such a wonderful product.
Sincerely,
Belinda
