I came to within an inch of losing my wife

My Legacy HelmetDear Troxel,

On Sept. 20, 2008 I came to within an inch of losing my wife from a blow to her head when she fell off her horse and hit the side wall of an indoor arena.  That inch was the approximate thickness of one of your helmets, the Troxel Legacy Gold. This accident was not because a horse bucked or freaked out, it was simply an inexperienced rider, and a situation that can happen any time.  The horse my wife was on was a tall mare of 16 hands.  My wife Valerie is not an experienced rider by any means.  In fact this was probably the fourth or fifth time at most that she had ridden in several years since buying the helmet.  It was simply a case of losing my balance combined with the motion of the horse, that she fell.  A testimony to the fact that wearing a helmet at all times is very important, even on a bomb proof  horse.

I have many things to be thankful for on that day.  The quick response of Regina EMS, a reliable, caring doctor and emergency staff at the Pasqua hospital in Regina and the follow up that the ER doctors did.  The initial CT scan from the night of the 20th showed a small amount of bleeding in the brain.  This wasnsn’t picked up until the next day when the radiologist reviewed the CT scan.  We had to attend the emergency room once again so blood tests and another CT scan could be done which showed the bleeding had resolved.  Valerie will have concussion symptoms for the next few weeks but this is far better than the alternative.  She has always said she can break an arm, a leg, or crack her ribs, but if she breaks her head she can’t function in her job, and of course, life!  I was there to see and hear the accident.  I watched as her body went limp as she went unconscious and I shared and experienced her fear when it was obvious she had no short term memory, the whole time t! I keep thinking thank God she was wearing her helmet!

Thank you Troxel for providing a safe comfortable and good looking product (I own one as well).  I’m sure lives have been saved many times over and it’s unfortunate to think that many people still do not wear helmets.  I’m hoping Valerie qualifies to have her helmet replaced by your Accident Replacement Policy but I have to say, this helmet has more than paid for itself.
