Kim Gentry & Leonardo
A native of Sydney, Australia, Kim is a successful rider and trainer through FEI. She is a USDF Certified Instructor through Fourth Level and earned both her Second and Fourth Level Certifications in the same testing. Kim is also a graduate of the USDF "L" program for judge training.
"I am really happy to see the acceptance of helmets increasing in the Dressage world. As a former event rider, I have had my share of wrecks! Even dressage horses can do unpredictable things at times, for a variety of reasons, regardless of their level of training. In fact, my most serious injury (two fractured vertebra) was from having to bail from an out of control bucking horse. As a professional, I ride many horses on a daily basis in a very hot and humid climate in Memphis. I have committed to wear a helmet every ride, every day and expect the same from students. I will not teach a student who will not wear a helmet."
Kim learned to ride as a student of Australian FEI judge Irene Bakels-Noreen and as a teenager was an active BHS Pony Clubber competing in eventing, show jumping and dressage. s focused on dressage since moving to the US over 25 years ago and has won numerous regional and national awards through FEI with horses that she has trained. In 2007 she was awarded the Major Andres Lindgren Scholarship from the Dressage Foundation which enabled her to travel to Germany and train in 2008 and 2009 with Stephan Kiesewetter.
In 2010, Kim has been training and competing her new partner C-Golden Eye. The pair has scores up to 70.8% at Intermediare 1 and qualified for the prestigious Devon CDI-W.
Kim is based out of Memphis, Tennessee and runs a successful teaching and training business there.
